How to set up Facebook Connect for Jomsocial

Facebook Connect will allow your users or site visitors to log into your site using their Facebook login credentials.

Here is a simple Step by Step guide to help you set up Facebook Connect if you make use of the Joomla extension : JomSocial Version 1.2

Step 1

Log into Facebook Developers or sign up for a Facebook account if you do not already have one . Follow the simple picture guide as your proceed to set up your Application on Facebook.

Step One

Step 2

This is where you start with the actual setup of your Application. Give it a name like Joe Black's FBConnect or similar, Agree to the FBTerms of Service andClick "Save" .

Step 2

Step 3

This is the step where the Facebook API generates a unique API key and A Secret Key for your newly created Facebook Connect Application. These are the details you will need to input into the JomSocial Administration Configuration settings. These details will authorise your site to connect with Facebook. You can also upload your sitesLogo here if you like.

Step 3

Step 4

This step is very basic and no explanation is necessary.

Step 4

Step 5

Please take extra caustion when inputting your site URL's in this step. All your URL's must be absolute ( eg: http://yoursite.com/whatever ) EXCEPT  for the Base Domain which will look like yoursite.com.

After this last step you can go back to your site and test by trying to log into your Jomsocail Community site with your Facebook credentials.

Step 5

issue with FBC
hi.. i have successfully done FBC but i am having issue in a specific case.

i am able to produce this issue on every browser of both windows & mac on my site is that first you open facebook and sign in. then you open my site's login page and then before clicking the facebook connect go back to facebook and sign out and then come back to site's login page and click on FBC and then first time you will see a message 'this site requires you to sign in to facebook' and if you cancel it or even press on 'connect to facebook' it does not matter because the dialog behind will stay blank. and if you close that dialog and then again press on FBC, all you will get will be a blank pop up.

FB connect users can't login with normal login form
Hi

I have Facebook connect set up and working, but if someone has registered on my site using facebook connect, they seem to be unable to login using the regular login form above the facebook connect button.

Is this the correct usage for jomsocial and FB connect.

I would expect that was a user has registered using FB connect, they would be able to login in the normal manner - if not, it will cause terrbile confusion amongst users.

Thanks
Dylan

Not authorised
Everything works fine aparently. It says that the connection with facebook is successful. Then theres this button to "update email" but it will take me to the "Profile" page, which I can not see cos I'm not logged in due to the fact that although the account has indeed been created, it is not activated yet.

See a demo at www.amphysvena.org

The email address assigned to users connecting with FB COnnect is generated randomly and can be changed later, There is alot of information on the JomSocial Forums to help you understand this process.

If you have gotten so far it means that you have correctly set up FB Connect as per this tutorial.

It dodnt work for me - it ads random email like this 3aXVi3w2@foo.bar
i followed your sample but It didnt work for me, when i click the facebook connect button it ask me to enter username and password, then it says "Congratulations you have been authenticated by facebook. Since this is your first time you have logged to the site, you might want to edit your detail" then theres a Update Email button. when i click the button. it goes to http://site.com//community/profile/editDetails but the page turns blank. and when i check the users created in the backend. it generates email like this 3aXVi3w2@foo.bar this is not the email i used when i tried to login

Not supported currently
That feature is not currently possible because of restrictions by the Facebook API, so you will only get one way staus updates, ie FB to JS

Yes these screenshots show the only info needed to get your Jomsocial site working with FB Connect. All the other details are for more advanced FB Connect usage that is not needed by JomSocial FB Connect currently.
