Adding a Flash Banner to Your Joomla site

Many a Joomla!™ web designer website owner has come across the problem of implementing a Flash banner into their website. Some have even given up on this idea after reading up on the difficulties encountered by others. With The Flash Module this all becomes a simple three step process. No more having to hard code into the index file and still wonder why it's not working as it should. All it takes is three simple steps.

Step1

You should at this stage have already created you Flash banner with your favourite application and generated ,
  • yourflash.swf
  • yourflash.html
Upload the yourflash.swf to a location in your Joomla images directory for easy reference.

Step2

Download Flash Module and install it in the usual way. Open it up with the Joomla Module Manager and have a look at the parameters that you need to set up. The three most important are the file path, file name and the object id. I have hilighted the object id in red to show what is needed to be entered in the object id parameter setting. This will be found in the generated html file.

clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"

Step3

Once you have set up the parameters enable the module to the pages you want it to display on and set it to the desired postion on the template, like the header or logo position and save. Preview your frontpage and test. Congratulations ! You should now have successfully added a flash header to your Joomla site.

One more thing , do not forget to rate and comment on the Joomla extensions site. The developers have really made this easy for you, and me, and need your vote.

You do not have to worry about that, if you did not create that Flash or have those files, have a look at the Flash game on this page. It does not have those files.smilies/smiley.gif

Hi, not related to this tutorial at all, but I will answer you briefly,Yes, it will only speed up the user experience, you will not be saving server side bandwith

Hello, I have one question:
does ajaxifying your joomla template improves performance in any way? I mean if it reduces bandwidth use by not-loading-whole-page, just the needed element. Or is it just user experience that is improved, and the transfered data amount is the same? Thanks in advance!

Can't get the swf banner to appear on the header.
Greetings! I am using Joomla 1.0.12. I installed the module just as you said, uploaded my swf file, and set the parameters as you said... However, when I publish, the flash file will not appear on any of the pages. It works in some of the other positions... such as Advent 1, which suggests that the ID number, file name & location are all correct, but something is preventing it from appearing on the header. Any thoughts?

Yes You Can
@ Lila

Yes you can use the Flash Module to incorporate a Flash menu into your Joomla template/Site. Joomla does not have a native Flash menu system nor are there any good FLash menu extensions out there. The best way is to create your own Flash Menu and then integrate with your Joomla site using the Flash Module. The only downside is that the menu won't be dynamic and will need to be updated if you need to add new menus/links but its not a big issue.

What template are you using ? I can maybe have a look and make a suggestion for you.smilies/smiley.gif

Hi

@ Irshad Ahmad

Please tell me that how to get the Object ID/Name, i have .swf file, i search a lot but there is no help related to finding Object ID of .swf file.
Thanks in advance

Try without placing any object id details in the parameters if you do not have one. It should work for you too as it did for ,

Hi

See Step 1. When you create your flash file you should also have an HTML file created . This will have it's own unique object id .

What program are you using to create your Flash file ?

Hi

like this module but i need to show multiple banners in one position.

This type of module is for flash files which are not static images. For using static images you can try the YOOcarousel module from YOOtheme or have a look at the Joomla extensions site for an image rotator that suits your purpose.

If its multiple flas banners you are after then its something that needs to be looked at.smilies/smiley.gif
